About AIPEX

Scope

AIPEX is not a journal, nor does it intend to duplicate the content of other sites. We envisage that the site will be composed of items that are (usually) shorter than a full paper. 

You can submit:

• An opinion or reflection on current AI policy or governance issues.
• A suggestion for future research in AI ethics, regulation, or strategy. 
• A summary, reflection or critique of an influential publication, website, or other resource related to AI, including content previously published on AIPEX. 
• A question seeking expert insight, similar to a public inquiry or forum query. 
• A response to a query already posted in the Q&A section. 
• A proposal for a topic deserving attention, with justification of its significance. 
• An overview of, or reference to, recent advancements in fields impacting AI policy, like data privacy, machine learning innovations, autonomous systems, or regulatory frameworks. 
• An interview with an expert in AI policy or governance. 
• An analysis of an AI governance framework or policy proposal. 
• A commentary on broader trends or issues within the AI policy sphere. 
• Discussions on ethical, social, or political dimensions of AI technology and its governance. 
• A review of a book on AI policy, ethics, or related topics, regardless of publication date. 
• Case studies of AI policy implementation or governance model outcomes. 
• Updates or evaluations of significant new tools or methodologies in AI policy analysis or governance. 
• We are open to other kinds of contributions if they fit in with the aims and spirit of the site. 
  

We can accept reprints of existing articles if the submission describes how the submission contributes to open discussion on AI Policy and solicits concrete questions.

Review and Publication Process

We aim for a light-touch review process, aimed at rapid publication whilst keeping the discussion relevant (no advertisements or spam), polite (conducive to debate), and legal (no libel, obscenity or copyright infringement).

AIPEX emphasizes a post-publication review process where scholarly discussion and critique of submissions are strongly encouraged. The evaluation of the quality and substance of contributions occurs openly, fostering public debate rather than being confined to a traditional, concealed review process. 

The submission and publication process are as follows

• AIPEX will accept submissions via a web-form with the following information: title, author, e-mail (for administrative purposes), type of submission, suggested keywords, link to the piece it comments on (if relevant), and the actual content. 
• The editorial team will desk-accept anything obviously suitable for AIPEX and immediately move to publish this as quickly as possible. There may be a request for revisions before publishing.   
• If the assigned editor has any doubt as to the suitability of the submission, or there is a conflict of interest, the piece will be sent to another relevant members of the editorial board for assessment. 
• The editorial board member will accept the item, provide suggestions for revisions (though this will only be a light review) or reply with a reason for rejection. Revision may include requests for minimal formatting and correction (e.g. spelling, typos etc.), including the addition of an additional citation. If rejected, reasons for rejection will be communicated to the submitter.

Following acceptance

• A static pdf version with a DOI will be archived but this version will not have any comments or be linked via tags to related contributions.  
• Suitable meta-data may be added to accepted paper to track the type, keywords, discussion chain, and author. 
• The paper will be published on the AI Policy website, AIPEX page, and announced through our RSS feeds, LinkedIn page and emailed to subscribers.
